Ephesians 6: 2-3, “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
Mother’s Day on the US calendar comes every year at the same time. Some people plan for weeks for the day to spoil their moms. Others act like the day is sneaking up on them and they didn’t know it was coming until someone asked them what they were doing for their mother. The point is, most people take some time on this special holiday to give honor and respect to the woman that gave them birth.
The Word says to honor your mother and father regularly and you can add years to your life upon the earth. To honor means to show respect, give recognition or assign value to. Honor your mom (and those who stood in as mother) as often as you can. Not just this weekend but every chance you can. Show her what her assigned worth is in your life. Respect her input (even if you don’t agree or use it, at least respect it). Recognize her contributions to the world as a woman and not just as your mommy. Celebrate the mother who God chose to bring you through and to this world.
By honoring her and your father regularly, you are planting seeds into your own future. Your children will only do for you what they see you do for your parents. If you have multiple sets of parents (step, foster, adopted or otherwise) you are so abundantly blessed to give back honor which is due. So go ahead, smother your mother with love, adoration, respect and honor. It will make her day (and extend your days to boot!).
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms, Step-Moms, Play Moms, Adopted Moms, God Moms, Unexpected Moms, Grandmother-being-mom-again Moms, Foster Moms (especially you!) and Wanna-be Moms! May God bless and honor your motherhood always.
Proverbs 31 27-30 “Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.’ Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
