What are you building with?

I Corinthians 3: 10-15 “God was kind and let me become an expert builder. I laid a foundation on which others have built. But we must each be careful how we build, because Christ is the only foundation. Whatever we build on that foundation will be tested by fire on the day of judgment. Then everyone will find out if we have used gold, silver, and precious stones, or wood, hay, and straw. We will be rewarded if our building is left standing. But if it is destroyed by the fire, we will lose everything. Yet we ourselves will be saved, like someone escaping from flames.” (Contemporary English Version)

Ever wonder where the expression “Only what you do for Christ will last.” comes from? Most likely the above scripture inspired its author’s pen. (No it is not a scripture itself…try and find it in the Bible and call me if you do.) Modern proverb or not, it is a valid and true statement.

So what are you building your life with?

Is your house made on the foundation of Christ?

What about the walls? Are they made of gold and silver? Or are the studs and drywall made of straw and hay? Have you used diamonds and rubies of wisdom as nails? Or do you rely on tacks of wood splinters to hold things together?

A strong house must be made from the spiritual things that will pass the test of fire on judgment day. Gold, Silver and other precious materials are only refined and made more pure by intense fire. Love, a pure heart, patience, longsuffering and a giving heart are some of the materials that matter in this world. And the next. The purpose and plan for your life ordained by God is what builds the house that stands strong in the midst of the approaching firestorm. Hatred, impatience, unforgiveness, idolatry and works of the flesh are hay, straw and wood. If you’ve ever seen a bonfire, then you know how fast those things are consumed. It matters what you use to build your house because believers are going to meet that fire.

Paul said Jesus is clear: EVERYBODY will take this test. We will all pass thru the fire to see if the house we built will stand or burn away and leave not even a trace of ash. Paul gives us all hope and tells us either way we will all be saved, because of our faith in Christ. But the rewards we could/would get are directly affected by the housing material we choose to use.

Choose today to make your house a home that will withstand the trial by fire. If you don’t know how, then call the Master Builder and allow Him to give you a Blueprint of the design He crafted just for you. Jesus will provide you with every precious material you need.

Do this and you will be guaranteed that thru the fire what you built for Christ will last. And last. And last…
