What is the function of a space suit? When an astronaut goes into outer space, they must wear a space suit. It gives a uniform look to each member of the team for identification, enables the astronaut to move around in a weightless atmosphere, protects them from cosmic radiation and encapsulates their body to provide oxygen to breath in an otherwise unnatural environment. While the astronaut is in space, the space suit is taken care of to the extent that he makes sure it is in good working condition and has no holes or tears that will allow valuable air out. So it would be counter-productive for an astronaut to spend a lot of time decorating the outside of the space suit. Sure, she could put all kinds of medals, ribbons and flags on the suit to make it appealing to the eyes and stand out among other space suits, but not checking to make sure it is doing what it was created to do (keeping the person inside of the suit alive during the out-of-world experience) would be sheer madness. Ignoring the essential needs of the person inside the suit would make the extra attention to the outside of the suit both frivolous and dangerous. Most importantly, astronauts are shot into orbit knowing that eventually their time in space will come to an end and they will go back to the place where they originated. They know when they get home they will take off the space suit and walk around in their true state of being without the need of the protective barrier needed from a foreign environment. The space suit will be taken off, never to be used by that or any other astronaut again.
What is the purpose of an “Earth suit? A person’s spirit wears a body or an Earth suit. Our bodies serve to identify us as the creations made in the likeness and image of God, give us the physical means to work in the earth, help repel the advancement of evil in this realm and protect and provide nourishment to the soul while having our living experiences. Just as an astronaut does, we should take care of our Earth suit to make sure that it is in good working order. We should work to refrain from over-indulgence and gluttony, eat and exercise properly, get regular checkups and abstain from harmful substances to make sure our bodies are taken care of daily.
Yet we sometimes forget this body, this Earth suit, is only temporary. We seek to decorate the suit outside and forget to take care of the soul inside. We go to great lengths to make ourselves look good to the opposite sex. We will spend HOURS in the gym to sculpt and perfect our physique. We’ll search a mall looking for the perfect outfit or shoes to wear. We have no problems injecting weird substances into our Earth suit to fill it out, yet some of us shudder to go to church for a couple of hours every week. We starve the soul of God’s Word. We grow weak from lack of prayer, praise and worship. The Earth suit gets all the attention while the soul inside is gasping for precious air. It is plain dangerous to ignore the soul inside the Earth suit.
Just as the astronaut realizes what goes up must come down, we must remember what God sends down to Earth must come back up to Him. Earth is truly the spiritual outer space of our spirit man. It is our exploration experience to discover The Truth before we go back to our real home, the real Mission Control. It’s not meant for us to stay in this foreign environment forever. What went down is definitely going back up.
We also must recognize the Earth suit is going to get holes, wear out and eventually break down. When our living experience is over, we will take off the Earth suit and live eternally, either in our real habitat with God or forever lost in space, separated from His presence. (Don’t get it twisted, each and every soul does have eternal life…it’s Who and what you choose during your living experience that will determine where you spend life forever.) Do you want to spend so much time taking care of your temporary Earth suit that you miss out on preparing the real you for eternal life?
God has blessed us with this opportunity to live and have dominion in the Earth, and we should enjoy it to the fullest. Yet don’t get so caught up in trying to make the Earth suit look better than the soul and eternal spirit it holds. Our body is just a suit that will one day be taken off, never to be worn again. In the end, the spirit, the real person inside is the true star that will live along side the Son.
Yes, we are spirit bodies in a physical body. When I was eighteen God visited me, lifted my spirit body out of my physical body and took me into the cosmos to visit Him. When I came back I saw my physical body on the bed and entered back into it.
