So you say “I am a prophet”?
Well let me tell you of a few things about TRUE prophets:
1. Prophets have few true friends. A true prophet CAN’T sugar-coat the truth because God won’t let them. Most people can’t handle the raw truth which comes forth from a prophet. They will get their feelings hurt and walk away rather than accept the Word as coming from God. They can’t see past the person delivering the mail to the One who sends the mail.
2. Prophets don’t always give a ‘Good & Comfortable’ Word. A true prophet KNOWS the job description includes reproof, correction and redirection, not just edification of the Body of Christ.
3. Prophets go thru extreme situations in their own life. A true prophet has uncomfortable and challenging situations EVERYDAY, ’cause God is developing a Word in them to release to His people. If you don’t “get it” first you sure can’t expect them to “get it” next.
4. Prophets cannot stand disorder, chaos and mismanagement of God’s Word. A true prophet will either step up and decree order in a situation or they will leave the situation altogether. They CANNOT tolerate it as status quo.
5. Prophets do not go seeking to give a Word. Ask Jonah, Jeremiah, Hosea and Elijah. If you did, they would tell you, given their choice they WOULDN’T have done it but they COULDN’T stop doing God’s Will. Trust, they tried.
6. Prophets generally are not liked by “regular” people or they are avoid altogether until needed. Ask the above prophets. Most of their lives somebody was out to kill them or at the very least shut them up…that was until they needed a Word. THEN they were sought out to give “What sayeth the Lord unto me?”. Sure the prophets have their “prophet groupies” – those who are looking to pull on the anointing for their own personal reasons. But most regular days, prophets get no love.
7. Prophets do not seek approval for the Word they have to give. A true prophet knows most of what God gives to release in the earth realm is not going to be popular– IT GOES AGAINST WORLDLY THINKING AND UPSETS THE NATURAL MAN’S WAY OF THINKING. So to look for approval of the message by man is futile. They best they look for is the ACCEPTANCE of the Word.
8. Prophets DO NOT speak a Word until God gives them one and tells them to release it. A true prophet is not going to have a Word just because you want instant gratification. He/she knows not to go against the will of God! (If a prophet has one then they have one. If not, don’t push it, you may get more than you bargained for!)
9. Prophets pay the price for the mantle and office of prophet. A true prophet has walked down a path which most people wouldn’t dare tread upon on their own. Be oh so very careful when you say you want to have an anointing like Prophet __________. You have NO EARTHLY idea of the EARTHLY HELL they have gone thru to receive the anointing they walk in. What they went through would kill you if you aren’t ready. I’m just saying…
10. Prophets do not look to gain earthly goods from the gift God has placed in them. A true prophet is never going to ask you to “sow into my ministry” or “send this $$ and I will release that specific Word.” If they are asking for money then they are a bootlegging psychic “profit”, a charlatan and not a true prophet of God. God takes care of His prophets. He causes men/women to pour out blessings to His prophets. “…yet I have NOT seen the righteous forsaken nor His seed BEGGING bread” Psalm 37:25 (emphasis mine).
Being a prophet of God is not what people think! Yes, we read the Word and the books of the prophets and admire them through the lens of history and time past. But if you where living with them, during that era and in the context of which their ministry was active, would you have loved them if they had to come to step on your toes? Would you appreciate them if they told you to stop living a wicked life, cease serving idols and put away your perverse diversions? Would you have obeyed the prophets Word, repented and bowed down before God to worship Him? Or would you be in the crowd of those who ignored their cries and sought to discredit or even silence them? There is nothing new up under the sun…
True prophets are standing up to the face of evil in these last days of this last age. They know the world may not accept the Word. They also know many in the Body will ignore the clarion call. The one thing a true prophet of God will not do is GIVE UP ON THE WORD GOD HAS GIVEN THEM TO DECREE IN THE EARTH REALM. Yes, there are TRUE prophets living in this age. When you meet one, you know it. Your life will never be the same.
Ephesians 4: 11-13 Christ chose some of us to be apostles, prophets, missionaries, pastors, and teachers, so that his people would learn to serve and his body would grow strong. This will continue until we are united by our faith and by our understanding of the Son of God. Then we will be mature, just as Christ is, and we will be completely like him.
