Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
Psalms 61:1-4 NKJV
With everything going on in the news as well as me being on the last 6 days of my fast, I’m getting off on this exit ramp and putting social media in hiatus for a week or two.
Yesterday the death of NBA retired player Kobe Bryant, his daughter and his companions hit me harder than I thought possible (I was not a fan of Kobe Bryant the player, but a fan of Kobe Bryant the man he grew to be). Along with the other things I’m praying about and the daily, increasing doom-like news from around the world, I was overwhelmed and emotionally drained by 4:23 pm. I sent myself to bed and I slept for more than 16 hours. That’s a sign of depression not exhaustion. (Minister knows herself) In order to stay the course and remain mentally and spiritually strong, I have learned to remove myself from my triggers. That means no social media for a while and very limited contact with toxic people and situations.
I’m not going dark but I am going Glory. I’m hoping to spend time in God’s hands, create and write and generally enjoy spending time with those I love.
I encourage each of you to do what is necessary to protect your mental and spiritual health. There is a HEAVY amount of negativity in the world right now. Do what you can to limit your exposure to social media and news coverage if you feel burdened. Also don’t rehearse or reinforce the negativity by reading every story, watching every tribute or replaying tragedy in your mind. You will make your heart and mind sick acting like that.
