It doesn’t take all that

“It don’t take all that.”

I heard her say it in spite of her attempt to mumble her contempt towards the demonstrative praise and worship of Jesus Christ going on around her. As usual, we were “going in” with our radical praise selves.

“Hmmm, maybe you’re right.”, I told her.

She looked at me as if I had just read her most private thoughts.

“But look at it like this… What if God was only as good to you as you are to Him? What if all of your blessings you take for granted were tied to how much you bless Him?” That got her attention.

“What do you mean?”

I told her, “For example, if you forget to say good morning to God, He would forget to provide your lungs with oxygen. Or, however high you lift your voice in worship to Him is how much He would allow your boss at work to recognize you with favor over the other employees. Or how about if you don’t cry tears of joy in praise to God, He would only allow you to have situations in which you’ll only experience pain and sorrow. He would make sure you will cry for one reason or the other”

She says to me, “What you are telling me is all these people are running around,  dancing, crying, acting all crazy because they think God won’t bless them if they don’t do all this?”

“NO.

We are doing all of this and more because He is the God that DOESN’T require all of that and blesses us anyway !”

We all fall short of the Glory of God. Yet He never fails to share His Glory with us. EVERYTHING we have comes from Him. Our jobs. Our families. Our food. Our friends. Our activity of our bodies. Our space. Our planet. The very air we breathe He doesn’t charge us to take in. He provides us with life, and in His Son, Jesus the Christ, even greater life because we are no longer slaves to sin and death. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” (James 1:17) God deserves ridiculous praise and worship because He shows us ridiculous mercy and compassion, favor and blessings, grace and His marvelous Glory EVERYDAY.

So my dear sister, it may not take all that for you but He gave ALL that He has for you.

Maybe it does take all of that…
