It’s amazing to me how many people refuse to believe a person can be both “good” and “evil” at the same time. All of us are born into sin. All of us fall short of the glory of God. Any one of us is capable of committing sins and crimes and unspeakable horrors. Not saying most of us would. I am saying most of us COULD.
With that being said, why is it so impossible to believe that a certain grey-haired man with a comedic and thespian background, who’s brought laughter and joy to so many (including me) couldn’t be capable of causing pain, suffering, sexual exploitation and rape to young women over the years? Why? Is it because he’s so “good”? Or is it because that’s too “evil” for your sensibilities? Is it because it means that a person who has amassed wealth and prestige through the gift of acting, laughter and education could also be a predator, menace and rapist and that would be just too much?
Throughout history, we have seen the duality of the human psyche played out before us. King David was a man after God’s own heart AND a murderer, adulterer and schemer. Modern times have shown us that politicians, entertainers, ministers and pastors and educators have all done evil things while maintaining a veneer of wholesomeness, goodness and purity. Look at the stories you read in the news. Most people, when they find out their neighbor, friend, SPOUSE did something despicable, the first thing they say is “I would never believe that about them. They were always so kind/loving/honest/normal etc with ME.” The person they know and love is the very same person that the victim knows and loathes. It IS the same person.
Here’s the problem. More people, including Christians, think as long as the good outweighs the bad then it’s okay in the end. That grey-haired educator/actor/comedian has more people coming to his defense right now saying “But he was always good to me.” and “But he’s done so much for the community and philanthropy and education.” and “But he makes me laugh and think at the same time.” So what. That good doesn’t negate the bad. It only contrasts it. When it boils down to it, he, like all of us, would rather have our good known and our bad hidden away. Because he has celebrity, fame and fortunes to spare, he has a greater chance of “getting away” with all his bad and making it just “go away”. Not a chance, however of him getting away with it with God.
God is not going to use the formula of good>bad=heaven. It doesn’t work like that. It’s not going to matter one whit whether your, mine or his good deeds outweigh our evil and sinful misdeeds. In God’s Eyes, sin is sin, whether it is egregious, malicious or not. The only measuring stick of righteousness Father will use is Jesus Christ and His holiness. If you can’t measure up to Him, YOU WILL FALL SHORT. Plain and simple. That’s why the gift of Jesus Christ and Salvation is so miraculous. No matter how evil your deeds might be, ALL HAVE THE CHANCE TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS, REPENT AND FALL ON THE MERCY OF JESUS CHRIST. Jesus is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:9) The formula therefore is:
Good/Evil person + Blood of Jesus = Eternal Life.
God is no respecter of men. If Jesus died for me, then He died for ALL. No matter what the sin might be. No matter how terrible we think it might be. OR no matter how much we can’t believe a person “can’t possibly do THAT.” I pray the grey-haired Jello man will repent before God and man. I pray he will ask for and receive forgiveness from Jesus Christ, as I pray we all do. I pray that the victims and family of all involved will receive peace of mind and a way to move forward. I pray the TRUTH will be revealed and the LIGHT OF GOD WILL ILLUMINATE the systems which lead to this kind of behavior… I pray people will wake up and know God for themselves.
