Bills. You know, recurring accounts that show up in your mailbox for these pesky little things like: mortgages, utilities, credit cards and car notes. How many of us have them? Then there are these conveniences and things like, you know, eating food and wearing clothes that we human beings really need to stay, say, alive. Is everything we need, and some things we just want, brought to us by a combination of hard work and desire for good things in our lives?. OR. Is everything we need is given to us by the divine and good hand of our Father in Heaven who provides to His children?
I happen to know it is the latter. Our temptation is to believe that it is our job, hard work, inheritance or handouts that provide for us. The stock market doing good or making sound savings and investment accounts are not by happenstance. It is the will of God that provides every, EVERY blessing that we receive. It is not we ourselves that do anything, but by the divine providence of God that we have everything. Our Father is the One who provides all we need pertaining to life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:3) He is the good, good Father who takes care of the birds and flowers, so how much more will He take care of His children? (Matthew 6:25-34) Our God is our provision.
Provision is defined as the action of providing or supplying something for use. It is also the actual amount of something provided or supplied. I look at it like this: God gives us a vision, then He is proactive in supplying the needs for it. It is His desire to furnish our lives with everything we need to survive our ambassadorship in the foreign land we call “the world”. The Word of God is full of stories of how He supplied the needs of His people. His faithfulness to the wandering tribes of Israel is famous. He literally brought manna from heaven and made quail sit still to be meat. Even in the midst of their unfaithfulness, He still provided. He gave Noah the plans to the biggest boat ever made by hand. God sent fire from Heaven to make the prophet Elijah the man before the false prophets of Jezebel. He provided David and His men shewbread when they were hungry. Without fail, God shows Himself to be the great provider to His people.
This month’s S.O.A.K. calendar is designed to show YOU and me that it is God’s desire to provide for us as well. No good thing will He withhold from us. And by faith and His Word, we can expect Him to do it too. As you write out, observe, and apply this Word to your heart, pray that God will show you His great hand moving on your behalf. Trust Him to provide the mortgage or rent and all the bills too. Let Him fill your freezer and cupboards with food. Ask Him then be in expectation that He will bring to your feet all that is necessary for you to have a good and fulfilling life. Even if you don’t know how He will do it FAITH- forsake all, I trust Him – it and watch it come to pass.
As you SOAK this month, think about this: There is an old saying in the Black church, “He may not come when you want Him but He is always on time.” Well I say this is true AND He will provide what you need in the nick of time. And if you have everything you do need, then thank Him, profusely and often for having given you and your family an abundance in your storehouse. It is truly a blessing to not have to worry about where your next meal will come from or if you have a complete pair of socks to wear. Either way, reflect on the promises of God revealed through these scriptures and be grateful that our God is proactively looking for ways to bless and keep us. Because, like for real, He meets our needs in so many special and unique ways everyday. Amen? Amen!
