Don’t Believe the Hype

Sound familiar on any level?

“It’s Friday the 13th. So I better avoid black cats. I don’t need any bad luck. It’s a good thing it’s not winter, so I won’t accidentally sweep snow and good fortune from my feet. Everybody knows, while I’m out I shouldn’t walk under a ladder: the sides of the ladder and the ground form a triangle, the symbol of Holy Trinity. If I walk through it, I’ll violate the trinity, putting me on the same level as the devil. I’ll be careful to not step on any cracks because I don’t want to break my mother’s back. I will avoid at all costs opening my umbrella indoors so I won’t block my blessings. As a lady, I will not put my purse on the floor cause money can’t reach that far down. Oh guys, you must remember not to put your hat on the bed, you will never have anyone else sleep peacefully next to you again. My ears are ringing so somebody is talking about me again. And my palm is itching so I must be getting ready to receive some money! Or wait, my thumb is itching too. Somebody is getting ready to come see me. Big Mama said if I dream some numbers I should head straight to the convenience store so I can hit box and straight. But Shugg said I better not dream about fish, somebody’s pregnant again. Oh yeah, Friday the 13th: avoid splitting the pole while walking with someone without saying “bread & butter” or is it “peas & rice”? Especially don’t tell a lie today or you will get “lie bumps” on your tongue for 13 days. If you go to a pet store DON’T touch a toad, you’ll get warts. So much to think about today to avoid bad luck… Darn it! I just broke my mirror!!”

How many of these things do we believe or have semi-trust in that have it’s basis in pagan worship, fable or plain ole wives’ tales? Dictionary.com defines luck as the force that seems to operate for good or ill in a person’s life, as in shaping circumstances, events, or opportunities. Did you know that the word luck is said to be a derivative of the word Lucifer? Do you really want the devil in charge of your circumstances and fate?

The bible says in I Timothy 4:7 “But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.” It’s as simple as this: Don’t believe the hype and nonsense Satan tries to trip you up with. If you give your life to Christ, your steps will be especially, exceptionally blessed today and everyday.
Selah.
Amen.
