“The Glory of the Lord is here! The Glory of the Lord is here. I can feel it in the atmosphere. The Glory of the Lord is here!” Those are partial lyrics to a song that I love to hum and sing around the house sometimes. The intangible but tangible presence of God’s glory is indescribable but so real. The English, Hebrew and Greek definitions, in my opinion, cannot give full credence to the depth and breath of what God’s glory and majesty really are. When I think of “glory”, so many things come to mind, when in reference to God. I think of majesty: like the royal palaces of England or Germany but on steroids. I think of Heaven: a place of unimaginable beauty and splendor. I think of prestige: the holiness and fame of God is second to none. And I think of exaltation: there is no way on Earth to be able to express the honor, distinction and acclaim that is due God our Father.
There are so many references to God’s glory in the Word of God that it was hard to narrow it down to only thirty one scriptures for this month. December is the month that we celebrate the birth of Jesus and it seemed only appropriate that we end the 2020 S. O. A. K. calendar by reading and reflecting on the Glory of the Son of God. But I also thought, hmmm, it would be great to see that God wants us to share in His glory as well. in Job 29, Job is talking in a parable to his friends. In verse 20 he says, “My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.” Isn’t interesting to know that God’s glory is mirrored in us and our strength can be renewed when we bask in it? God pours out His splendor for us to see and for us to gain power, healing, deliverance and even reconciliation in glory. It’s no wonder why so many people dance, sing, and jump around in the middle of worship and praise. For when the Glory of God is released in the atmosphere, it makes everything else seem small and insignificant.
In the beginning, God said, “Let there be Light.” I truly believe that was the moment God allowed all of the universe to see the Glory of God in His full splendor. When we were in sin, we couldn’t conceive of it because we were still in Darkness. Because we are reconciled back to the Father, through the Son, Jesus Christ, we now have the ability to see God in all His Glory. We “see” Him through the Word of God, which so richly and aptly gives us glimpses of His power, majesty and splendor. As you go through this month’s S. O. A. K. calendar, allow yourself to perceive the fullness and grandeur of God’s Glory in Heaven and in YOU. You are a temple, carrying His Glory. Just as the ark of the covenant was made beautiful on the outside, but carried the unimaginable power and beauty of God’s glory on its inside, so are you. You were made to be a vessel fit to be filled with His presence and His glory. Do not shy away from this knowledge but embrace it as truth and live like you know it as well. As you read, observe, apply and pray this month about this Word, I pray you will “Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.” (Isaiah 60:1-2, NKJV). Amen!
