Protection. Increasingly, this world makes me feel like I need protection from it. Weather, pestilence, wars, violence in the streets; it seems everywhere I look, I need to be shielded and protected from everything and everyone. I feel vulnerable at times and afraid of what the days ahead may bring. Yet God did not give me the spirit of fear, but the spirits of power, love and a sound mind are mine. Right? Right!
The Word of God reminds us that, in spite of what we may see and experience all around us, our Heavenly Father is protecting us and keeping us from the ultimate danger: eternal damnation and separation from Him. Both in this life and in the world to come, He is protecting us from hurt, harm and danger. The key is to remember His promises towards us regarding the protection He provides. Throughout the Word, He reminds us He is strong, mighty and capable of moving mountains and armies out of our way. He dispatches angels and heavenly warriors to cover us and even provides His Almighty Wing to overshadow us and hide us. He is our Strong Tower and our Fortress and to Him we can run to find relief, shelter and protection.
This month’s calendar is designed to help you remember His Word concerning how much He loves us and the lengths He is willing to go to protect us. You will find most of the scriptures come from the old testament. Does that mean that with the new covenant, He has forsaken His responsibilities towards us? NO! When Jesus ascended, He sent Holy Spirit to be our Comforter and Protector. Who else can enable us to have power over the enemy and protect us from serpent venom and scorpion stings? Holy Spirit is the embodiment of the protection we are afforded as sons and daughters of the Most High God. Look at it like this: Holy Spirit is our invisible, powerful ally, confidant and not-so-secret service Agent who is with us any and every place we go. He is the fulfillment of every promise each scripture of protection the old testament gives us. S. O. A. K. this month in the promise of protection God has given us in every area of our lives.
