May 2020 – Attitude

This is the perfect time. For historical and posterity’s sake, we here, in the United States of America, are in the midst of a epidemic. An epidemic of a proportion that has been termed “biblical” by some, apocalyptic by others. A virus, more specifically a Corona type virus deemed Covid-19 has been ravaging our country. Tens of thousands of citizens have been infected, with the scariest projections predicting that millions of people will become victim to this insidious disease. Thousands have died. We’ve been instructed to stay at home if you do not have an essential job. We are also suppose to put on p.p.e – personal protective equipment, like gloves, masks and maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet from each other when out in public.
There, as of today, have not been mandatory quarantines or stay at home orders, but most people in urban areas are adhering to the rules. However, there are significant amounts of people just milling around, acting like there is not a deadly virus circulating among people, killing them with ugly and debilitating symptoms. People should only be in stores for essential items, yet some are using big box retailers, home improvement and grocery stores as recreational centers and playgrounds. There are groups of citizens actually protesting at state capitals all over the country, saying the government is infringing upon their right to chose whether they get the disease or not. To prove their point, they are vehemently exercising their 2nd amendment rights by waving AK-47s and Uzis around, like the guns will protect them from the lies they think the scientist are telling them.
Amazingly, it is the reaction of some church denominations and well known Christian leaders are advocating for their churches and congregations to be categorized as essential meeting places. Ignoring the advice, orders and edicts of government officials and doctors, some pastors, bishops and priests are defying laws and precedent by calling for their congregations to meet in person. Personally, I don’t know how putting yourself and your congregants in potential harms way proves your faith but maybe I don’t have all the answers.
But I’m giving the history of what is going now because I want you to understand the context in which I make the following statement: It’s the perfect time.

It’s the perfect time to S. O. A. K. in God’s Word concerning our ATTITUDE. An attitude is defined as a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior. When I was growing up as a teenager, to say “Girl, she has an attitude!” meant that we thought her disposition was very displeasing and haughty. The word for us had a negative connotation. Yet we can also describe someone as having a pleasing disposition and nice attitude. It is all a matter of perception. The perception of our own personal attitude should be of great concern to us as well. The scriptures are a source of life-altering, attitude changing Words of God, enabling us to take on the attitude of Jesus Himself. Our settled way of thinking and feeling should not be based upon world standards or our own sense of right and wrong. Rather we should shed our “attitude” to gain a greater altitude in Christ Jesus.

This month’s S. O. A. K. is all about the type of attitude adjustment we all need to make in order to be the loving child of God has called us to be. As you write out and observe the scriptures, be sure to note what you will apply to your life. It’s easy to read a Word and say “Oh that’s good.” or “That is really inspirational.” But we are to do more than that with the Word. WE are to apply it, activate it so we can be doers of the Word and not hearers only. As you apply the Word, ask God to help you activate your new attitude. Remember Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”, and that means improving our attitudes too.

Happy S. O. A. King Global Girl Ministries Family. Enjoy this perfect time in history to use solitude and social distancing with other people and grow ever closer to God your Father and attitude adjuster!
