July 2020 – Prophecy

Prophecy. Why has it been made out to be so… spooky? I guess it’s been labeled that because it is supernatural in it’s essence. Prophecy is the foretelling of information concerning a person or situation which was previously unknown and was completely inspired by God. Some folks might call that fortune-telling or psychic abilities, but there is a distinct difference between the two, and it lies in the words “inspired by God”.

For thousands of years, mankind has desired to know what the future may hold. They have sought out those particular kinds of peculiar people who have this special ability to tap into the spirit realm and give predictions of what may or may not come to pass. Those people would seem to have a gift or knack for knowing what’s next. Yet I’m a firm believer that these type of people, who tap into the spirit realm without permission or without a relationship with Jesus, are doing so illegally and therefore are receiving somewhat tainted or fallible information. So no, I’m not talking psychics here. I’m talking about the inspired Word of God through the hand or mouth of one sent by God that never returns void and brings about an accurate and precise change in the individual and/or circumstance. Prophecy is a bit like that picture above, it opens up doors to a vision that is both spectacular in it’s vibrancy and accurate in it’s detail of the picture God decides to show. The ones who are chosen to be used in this capacity are called prophets and the words they use to paint a picture of what God desires to happen in the earth is called prophecy.

In 1 Corinthians 12 God lets us know that there are gifts of the Spirit that He gives to us as He sees fit. One of those gifts is prophecy. We are okay with faith, different kinds of tongues and even the interpretation of those tongues, but for some reason many, in the modern church, have some difficulty in accepting that prophecy is real, let less a gift. I find it astonishing that some Christians have no problem reading their horoscope daily and believe it has some bearing on their lives, yet they refuse to believe a gift from God outlined in scripture can be accurate and true. It is telling that only so called charismatic denominations of the body of Christ believe in prophecy. Too many others think its sensationalism or pure heresy. Yet the Bible is full of prophets, prophetesses, and prophecy in the NEW TESTAMENT as well as the old. I Corinthians 14:1 even states, “Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may PROPHESY.” (emphasis mine) How weird it must be for God to desire for us to prophesy and then watch us argue its relevance or deny its power?

How much better would you feel if you knew what was coming in your life? The thing is this: Jesus Christ IS the Spirit of Prophecy! His Word is true and will give you everything you need pertaining to life and strength. Reading His written Word daily will help you to receive a true prophetic word inspired and uttered by one of His servants. So when a prophetic word comes from one of His messengers, you understand that it is to bring comfort, and/or correction and confirmation His word. A word from a prophet will never contradict or compete against Christ Jesus Himself.

This month’s S. O. A. K. calendar is designed to challenge our unbelief in the power and gifting of prophecy. Each scripture was chosen to reinforce that prophecy and prophets are still as real and relevant today as they were to the prophets of the Old Testament and the prophets of the New. The calendar is not to be viewed as an attempt to convince you that it exists, rather it is to reinforce that a prophetic Word from the Lord given to you can encourage, improve, set straight and give peace to your life. As you SOAK in this calendar, I pray that the Spirit of Prophecy Himself will begin to speak to you in ways you never thought possible. I earnestly pray that you would desire to be used by God in any capacity that He desires and that you would be open and available to prophecy if that’s the gift He chooses to bestow. Jesus is real and so are His gifts. I pray that this July 2020 is the month that you unwrap the gift of prophecy and see the visions that God has laid before you to see and and know.
