From the very beginning, the enemies of your life have conspired to destroy your self esteem. I’m not talking about some far away shadowy “they”. I’m speaking about people with whom you come in daily contact – The parent who said you disappoint them. Your teacher that said you will never amount to anything. A friend who’s jealous spirit tears you down at every turn. Your spouse who can find each and every fault you possess and exploit it to the fullest. You have heard it all: “You will never succeed at anything.”, “You won’t accomplish that, you’re not that smart.”, “You are ugly.”, “Why do you even try?” and “You’re not good enough for me.”The saddest part of these emotional and spiritual assaults is we, on some level, accept it as personal truth. We actually take to heart the cruel, hurtful and untrue words people deposit in our hearts. Whoever said “Sticks and stones may hurt me but your words never will.” has never had a loved one call them stupid on a regular basis. Words do have power.
Do you realize that somebody else has unconsciously spoken death over your life? This person constantly says what you can’t do, what you won’t achieve and what you will never be. Who is this person?
It’s YOU.
Think about how you speak to yourself. Think about what you really feel about your self worth. Unless you are a super-confident person with the internal fortitude to withstand external verbal attacks, you have experienced self esteem issues. The questions here are this: Who are you gonna believe? The people who think they know you well (including you)? Why is it easier to believe them and Satan over God? Are you gonna believe God, who created you in His image? His Word is Truth. In it He spells out exactly who you are in Christ. It doesn’t matter what anyone else’s opinion might be. Your teacher has no bearing what-so-ever on where your destiny may take you. Your friend’s jealous spirit cannot hold you back from meeting the goals God has made for your life. Even what your family may have spoken negatively over your life is nullified and void when you choose to believe God and not them.
When Satan and his imps try to convince you it can’t be done, you’re not capable, don’t try or any other self-esteem busting mumbo-jumbo, then speak God’s Word to them AND to yourself: I am blessed when you revile me. Matthew 5:11 I can cast out demons. Mark 16:17 I have a place in heaven. John 14:1-4 I’m a light in the world. Matthew 5:14-16 I have chosen life over death. Deuteronomy 30:11-20 I can do all thing through Christ. Philippians 4:12 I have access to the Throne of Grace. Hebrews 4:16 I’m blessed going in and out. Deuteronomy 28:1-14 I am loved. John 3:16 I will not be put to shame. Joel 2:27 I’m made in God’s image. Genesis 1:26-27 I live because Jesus lives. John 14:19 I have the armor of God, I can stand. Ephesians 6:13 I delight in my life with God, I receive the desires of my heart. Psalm 37:4 I can’t be cheated out of my rewards. Colossians 2:18-23 I ask in Jesus’ Name and I receive. John 14:14
Believe in the life God has deposited in your spirit. Believe in your heart who you are through the Word of God. Believe and have faith in yourself. Believe the Truth.
