Thy Will Be Done, Really?!

Be careful which prayer you choose to pray

Be careful. An easy prayer is to ask “Lord thy will be done.” Yet, the problem is when His will is being done, we don’t always like the outcome.

The bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:4 “But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses” The will of God does not always mean happy, joyful or easy times. We don’t understand that by pulling on Him and asking “Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” does not mean we will always like the answer. If there is no chaos in Heaven, yet there is pure chaos on earth, then He must reorder the status quo here and set about a new way. We are used to the disorder, so when change comes it feels awkward and out of our normal routine. Then we begin to question God and say, “But I thought Your will was being done?”

Our thoughts and ways are so “Earth-bound”. We don’t understand the perception, thoughts and ways of the Eternal and All Knowing God. We think linear. God thinks outside of our preconceived box. How He accomplishes His will is not necessarily going to line up with our fragile egos and easily offended feelings. Accepting the will of God Almighty may mean we have to say goodbye to our comfortable existence as a person. It may mean we have to say so-long to some long time relationships. The will of the Father may mean sacrificing some things along the way. At one point or more in our lives, God’s will being done necessitates the acceptance of losing what we thought was ours to have…

… “In much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses” is sometimes how God’s will is packaged. To be a believer in God means we can’t only trust and lean on Him when we like what He is doing. Philippians 4: 12-13 says, “I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” I know we like to quote that last part as a means to power through tasks and obligations. But the intent and purpose of that powerful Word is to convey that Jesus Christ will strengthen us to accept Father God’s will and keep us in perfect peace, especially when we don’t like circumstances or outcome. It

Consider adjusting your prayer language. “Lord let me accept thy will being done.” is a prayer which will help you to trust Him even when you don’t like what He’s doing.
