Comebacks for the Wack Attack

It’s inevitable. If you truly have a relationship with Jesus Christ it’s bound to happen. The church cliche will fly. The “Christian Banter” will flow. The religious speak will ensue and they want a “super-spirical, I mean spiritual” response from you. Are you prepared? What will you say? When you run into some “religious” folk, us “relationship” folk may need some Word of God to dispel that religious nutty talk. So here are some Word comebacks for the wacky and un-biblical statements they might make: *When they tell you “I was so drunk in the spirit”, you tell them The Word says “Be SOBER {sane, sound-minded, self-disciplined}, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”.

*When they tell you “I went so far ‘in’ I was out and don’t remember a thing”, you tell them The Word says “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and BRING ALL THINGS to YOUR REMEMBRANCE, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

*When they tell you “I just let my mind go blank when I meditate”, you tell the The Word says “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in IT {THE BIBLE} day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

*When they tell you “I just praise God in my own silent way”, you tell them The Word says “By him therefore let us offer the SACRIFICE of praise to God continually, that is, the FRUIT OF OUR LIPS {WORDS SPOKEN ALOUD} giving thanks to his name.”

*When they tell you “I don’t think it takes all that”, you tell them the The Word says “And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with REJOICING {animating with gladness; exhilarating}.”

*When they tell you “I just don’t believe in demons”, you tell them The Word says “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and DOCTRINES OF DEMONS”.

*When they tell you “I pay my tithes and offering, just like I pay my bills”, you tell them the Word says “so let each one GIVE as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly OR OF NECESSITY; for God loves a CHEERFUL GIVER.”

Should you argue with them? Heaven forbid. You are not supposed to quibble over the scriptures. HOWEVER, it is perfectly acceptable to correct their religious speak with sound scripture. Do it in humility and do it in love. Many times, they are just repeating what they heard someone else say and they have no clue that it is scripturally unsound. Paul gave Timothy permission to do it. Holy Spirit is giving YOU permission to do it too. Be prepared by rightly dividing the Word of Truth. When the religious nuts start, use the nutcracker of the Word to break the myths and release the Truth into their lives.

II Timothy 2:24-26 “And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.” New King James Version

“God’s servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the Devil’s trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.” The Message

“God’s servants must not be troublemakers. They must be kind to everyone, and they must be good teachers and very patient. Be humble when you correct people who oppose you. Maybe God will lead them to turn to him and learn the truth. They have been trapped by the devil, and he makes them obey him, but God may help them escape.” Contemporary English Version
